Nea Iraklitsa is a cosmopolitan resort just next to the western boundaries of Kavala. It perfectly combines nightlife and natural life. The main attraction of the area is the church of Panagia Faneromeni. There you can see the miraculous icon of Panagia, which, according to the tradition, was painted by the Evangelist Luke. On the 23rd of August, the area hosts one of the largest commercial festivals throughout Northern Greece associated with Panagia (Virgin Mary).
You can enjoy swimming in the crystal beaches lying around (Alana Beach) and try some water sports. You can also take a short cruise in the bay of Nea Iraklitsa and admire Fidonisi and Arethousa Islands, the majestic and steep red cliffs, the Fokiotrypa (a cave hosting seals) and the image of the Panagia formed on the rocks by nature. Finally, the large number of taverns, restaurants, cafes and bars along the pedestrian zone can meet any culinary and entertainment expectation.
